December Opening times:

The Christmas markets are open daily and attract visitors to Prague throughout December, including over Christmas and on New Year's Eve. And there is sightseeing and entertainment on offer every day.

What is Open and When in December?

05th December 2015- 23rd December 2015
Christmas markets are open.

Tourist attractions and sightseeing tours, bars, cafés, restaurants and shops operate as normal.

There are opera, ballet and theatre performances, and classical concerts, including festive concerts.

The metro and tram networks run a normal service: public transport information.

24th December 2015: Public Holiday
Christmas markets are open.
 Prague Christmas markets

Christmas Eve is the most festive day of Christmas in the Czech Republic, and is the one day when a significant number of businesses close or have limited opening hours.

Many tourist attractions close their interiors. However, the famous squares (a major attraction of Prague) are naturally open for visitors to stroll around. Christmas Eve is a wonderfully peaceful day to explore the city.
Sightseeing tours operate in the morning only.

Festive classical concerts run in the afternoon and early evening.

A limited number of cafés and bars open for drinks and light food. BUT, only selected restaurants are open, so we strongly recommend making advance reservations.

For shopping, mostly only small convenience stores open.

The metro and tram networks run a Saturday service during the day (regular trams + the metro in 6-8 minute intervals). From 18:00-24:00, the metro runs in 20 minute intervals. From 16:00-18:00, there are limited trams. From 18:00-24:00, night trams run in 20 minute intervals. From 24:00-07:00, night trams run in 30 minute intervals.
The Funicular Railway at Petrin operates 09:00-18:00.

25th-26th December 2015: Public Holidays
Christmas markets are open.

Most tourist attractions and sightseeing tours, bars, cafés, shops, theatre, opera and ballet performances operate. There are festive classical concerts and most restaurants are open (many have special menus). We recommend making advance reservations where possible.

The metro and tram networks run a Sunday service during the day and early evening (regular trams + the metro in 6-8 minute intervals). From 21:00-24:00, the metro runs in 15 minute intervals. From 21:00-04:30, night trams run in 30 minute intervals.
The Funicular Railway at Petrin operates 09:00-23:20.

27th-30th December 2015
Christmas markets are open.

Tourist attractions and sightseeing tours, restaurants, bars, cafés, shops, theatre, opera, ballet, concerts and public transport operate as normal.

31st December 2015
Christmas markets are open.

Shops and tourist attractions have limited opening hours. Most sightseeing tours operate.

Concert venues and theatres have afternoon and early evening performances. There is a special New Year's Eve Gala at the Prague State Opera.

Restaurants, bars, clubs and nightlife venues have extended opening hours, and many put on New Year's Eve parties with special menus.

The metro runs a normal service day and night, extended until 01:30 (last trains begin their journey at 01:00). Trams run a normal service during the day until 22:00. From 22:00-04:00, night trams run in 15 minute intervals. From 04:00-07:00, night trams run in 20 minute intervals.
The Funicular Railway at Petrin operates 09:00-22:00.

01st January 2016: Public Holiday
Christmas markets are open.

Most shops, bars, cafés, restaurants, theatre, opera, ballet, tourist attractions and sightseeing tours operate as normal.
There are special New Year's Day concerts at the major concert halls.

The metro and tram networks run a Sunday service (regular trams + the metro in 6-8 minute intervals).
The Funicular Railway at Petrin operates a normal service.

02nd-03rd January 2016
Christmas markets are open.

Shops, bars, cafés, restaurants, theatre, opera, ballet, concerts, tourist attractions, sightseeing tours and public transport operate as normal.

The Russian Orthodox Church celebrates the birth of Christ on the 7th January - Prague attracts many Russian visitors around this period.
