Opening times in Prague: In December and over Christmas:

The Christmas markets attract visitors to Prague throughout December, including over Christmas and on New Year's Eve. As well as the festive atmosphere in the city, there is a range of sightseeing and entertainment for visitors to enjoy.

What is open and when in Prague?
29th November - 23rd December 2014
Christmas markets are open - Christmas markets.
Sightseeing tours and tourist attractions operate as normal.
Bars, cafés, restaurants and shops are open.
There are theatre, opera, ballet and classical concerts, including special festive performances.
The metro and trams run a normal service - public transport information.

24th December 2014
Christmas Eve is the most festive day of Christmas in the Czech Republic, and is the one day when a significant number of businesses close or have limited opening hours.
 Prague Christmas markets

Christmas markets are open.

Most tourist attractions close their interiors. But the squares and streets are open, for visitors to stroll around, to enjoy the sights from the outside.
Sightseeing tours operate in the morning only.

A limited number of cafés and bars open for drinks and light food. And only selected restaurants open, so we strongly recommend making advance reservations.

Some small shops are open, mostly convenience stores.

There are special festive classical concerts and theatre performances to enjoy in the afternoon and early evening.

The metro and trams run a Saturday service during the day (regular trams + metro in 7-8 minute intervals). From 18:00-24:00 metro runs in 15 minute intervals. From 16:00-18:00 limited trams. From 18:00-04:30 night trams run in 30 minute intervals.
The Funicular Railway at Petrin operates 09:00-18:00.

25th-26th December 2014
Christmas markets are open.

The metro and trams run a Sunday service during the day and early evening (regular trams + metro in 7-8 minute intervals). From 21:00-24:00 metro runs in 15 minute intervals. From 21:00-04:30 night trams run in 30 minute intervals.
The Funicular Railway at Petrin operates 09:00-21:00 on 25th December; 09:00-23:20 on 26th December.

27th-30th December 2014
Christmas markets are open.

Shops, bars, cafés, restaurants, theatre, opera, ballet, concerts, sightseeing tours, tourist attractions and public transport operate as normal.

31st December 2014
Christmas markets are open.

Shops, sightseeing tours and tourist attractions operate with restricted opening hours. Concert venues and theatres put on afternoon and early evening performances. Restaurants, bars, clubs and other nightlife have extended opening hours, and many put on special New Year's Eve events.

The metro runs a normal service all day and night, extended until 01:30am (last trains begin their journey at 01:00am). Trams run a normal service during the day until 20:00. From 20:00-04:30 night trams run in 15 minute intervals.
The Funicular Railway at Petrin operates 09:00-20:00.

01st January 2015
Christmas markets are open.

Most shops, bars, cafés, restaurants, theatre, opera, ballet, sightseeing tours and tourist attractions operate as normal.
There are special New Year's Day concerts at the major concert halls.

The metro and trams run a Sunday service (regular trams + metro in 7-8 minute intervals).
The Funicular Railway at Petrin operates a normal service.

02nd-04th January 2015
Christmas markets are open.

Shops, bars, cafés, restaurants, theatre, opera, ballet, concerts, sightseeing tours, tourist attractions and public transport operate as normal.

05th-11th January 2015
Christmas markets are open at Wenceslas Square only.

The Russian Orthodox Church celebrates the birth of Christ on the 7th January - Prague attracts many Russian visitors around this period.
Shops, bars, cafés, restaurants, theatre, opera, ballet, concerts, sightseeing tours, tourist attractions and public transport operate as normal.
