How the New World Symphony Conquered the World

Antonín Dvorák's Symphony No. 9, Op. 95, “From the New World” is the Czech composer's best known symphony. Dvorák composed it shortly after arriving in New York in 1982, where he was invited to become the Director of the National Conservatory of Music. This small exhibition at the Antonín Dvorák Museum features music scores, pictures and autographs, and reveals the connection between the symphony and ancient American-Indian legends.

Tanec Praha (Dance Prague)

Tanec Praha (Dance Prague) has been the city's major dance festival since its inception in 1989. Participants come from all over the world, competing for prizes in various categories, including classic, contemporary, jazz and folk, as well as choreography and other performances associated with the art of dance.

The Prague Proms annual music festival is a series of classical concerts organised by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra. Traditionally these take place at their Prague home, the Municipal House, in the stunning Smetana Hall, the largest auditorium in the building. This year, two other prestigious venues join the Prague Proms, the Rudolfinum Concert Hall and Hybernia Theatre.

New Prague Dance Festival

Participants for the festival come from all over the world to compete in categories including classic dance, modern dance, jazz-hip hop, folk, Latino dance, choreography, dramatic dance, pedagogy, dance talents, modern talents and costume design.

Speedway World Cup - FINAL

The Speedway World Cup visits Prague for the first time in 2013. There will be race off on 18 July 2013 and final on 20 July 2013. The Danish team, headed by three-time world champion Nicki Pedersen, will bid to follow up last year’s success in Sweden, but Grand Prix champ Chris Holder will be hoping he can lead Australia to the title after missing out by three points last year.

Prague Folklore Days

The 7th International meeting of folk groups in Prague runs over four days on open air stages at the Old Town Square, Wenceslas Square and Republic Square. Amateur folk groups from many countries come to present their own style of folklore. On Saturday afternoon there is also a parade through the Old Town.

The International Folklore Festival "Prazsky Jarmark" invites artists to perform from all over the Czech Republic, alongside those from Europe, Asia and Latin America. The festival is free to enter and takes place at Ovocny trh, a square at the back of the Estates Theatre in Prague. There are also traditional Czech markets.

Prague is famous for opera, ballet and classical concerts. Performances take place in three magnificent opera houses, in stunning concert halls and in an array of beautiful historic churches. Tickets are reasonably priced, so shows often sell out. Advance reservations are therefore highly recommended.

Visit the Prague theatre for a typically Czech experience.
Black light theatre is a highly charged mix of dynamic dance, mime, singers, film, and state-of-the-art visual and sound effects.
Marionette theatre features giant puppets dressed in 18th century costumes. Shows are highly visual, so suitable for adults and children of all ages and nationalities. And as with opera and concerts, advance reservations are highly recommended.
