The Money Exhibition at the New Building of the National Museum looks at the history of currencies, exploring the development of commerce and wage labour, the workings of banks and of the stock exchange. In a broader context it also analyses the influence of money on art, lifestyles and on human morality.
The exhibition features currencies, historic treasures, silverware, jewels, photographs and pictures. For adults and children.

Municipal House
Vital Art Nouveau 1900
Date: 01 April 2014 - 31 December 2015
Time: 10:00-19:00
Municipal House is the foremost Art Nouveau building in Prague. This exhibition presents late 19th century Czech and European Art Nouveau works, on loan from the Museum of Decorative Arts. Decorative art shown at the Paris World’s Fair of 1900 will also form part of the exhibition, which totals over 400 items.

Wenceslas Square

Student-celebrated spring festival which takes place throughout the Czech Republic. In Prague this manifests itself as a parade from Jan Palacha, which is near the horse at the top of Wenceslas Square, to the Old Town Square.

Petrin Hill & Observation Tower

Petrin Hill is the romantic setting for couples in love to spend a few hours together, after placing flowers at the feet of a statue of the celebrated 19th century poet, Karel Hynek Macha. Macha created several myths, a few illegitimate offspring and an epic poem called 'May'. Thus, lovers make a pilgrimage in his name and find a quiet corner to, well, er, let's say no more.

Liberation Day (1945)

Public holiday. Though the Soviet tanks rolled in to liberate the Czech Republic a day later than elsewhere, on 9 May 1945, VE Day is celebrated annually on the 8 May, in line with the other former Communist countries "liberated" by the Russians.

Prague Marathon

The Prague Marathon is one of the most beautiful marathon courses in the world. The race winds through the historic city centre, over bridges and along the Vltava River. 9000 runners are expected.
The race is held on Sunday 11th May, but the build up starts on Saturday 10th with a weekend of activities, including a relay marathon and a corporate team marathon.

The Czech Beer Festival in Prague is the country's largest gastronomic event, with seating for 4000 visitors on long benches in the open air and inside marquees. There are 70 brands of Czech beer sourced from large breweries, regional breweries and micro-breweries, plus food specialties to taste and live bands to entertain. No need to pre-book, just turn up.
Price: Mon-Fri Before 2pm free admission. After 2pm 90czk (includes a free beer). Sat-Sun 90czk (includes a free beer).

A unique sound and light spectacle electrifies the river. Gather on Charles Bridge or along the banks of the river, or book a river cruise or a table at a river restaurant to enjoy a flotilla of historical boats, Baroque music and fireworks.

The Prague Food Festival celebrates the culinary skills of the Czech Republic's top restaurant chefs. Visitors can sample local and international dishes, plus various wines, sparking wines and beers. For families, a children’s area offers child supervision, entertainment and the opportunity to try out cooking.
You can book in advance, but the system is a little complicated. We advise buying your tickets at any of the gates on the day for 500czk (0-5 yrs free), which includes food sampling.
Where: Royal Gardens at the back of Prague Castle.
There are 4 entrances, the easiest to find is beside Lvi Dvur Restaurant (tram 22 stops outside - tram stop Prazsky Hrad).

Getting There: Take the metro to Malostranska (line A). Then take tram 22 and alight at Prazsky Hrad (Prague Castle).

Prague Opera
Prague Opera, Ballet & Classical Concert listings & tickets

Prague is famous for opera, ballet and classical concerts. Performances take place in three magnificent opera houses, in stunning concert halls and in an array of beautiful historic churches. Tickets are reasonably priced, so shows often sell out. Advance reservations are therefore highly recommended.

Visit the Prague theatre for a typically Czech experience.
Black light theatre is a highly charged mix of dynamic dance, mime, singers, film, and state-of-the-art visual and sound effects.
Marionette theatre features giant puppets dressed in 18th century costumes. Shows are highly visual, so suitable for adults and children of all ages and nationalities. And as with opera and concerts, advance reservations are highly recommended.
