Mama's (previously called Papa's) is a stylish modern Czech restaurant and bar on Bethlehem Square (Betlémské náměstí). This is a lovely part of the Old Town, just minutes from the Old Town Square
and Wenceslas Square
Mama's is popular with local Czechs, as well as ex-pats and tourists, which ensures a good vibe most nights and great value food and drink.
The kitchen, indeed the entire restaurant, has been reconstructed in 2013. The result is a wonderfully clean environment to dine in, and an excellent standard of local food.
Mama's menu focuses on modern Czech cuisine, peppered with international dishes to ensure global appeal. Dishes are tasty, plentiful and well presented. And the food is reasonably priced - remember Mama's is popular with the Prague locals.
Traditional Czech food includes Svickova (sirloin of beef), roasted pork, beef chilli goulash, grilled sausages and river fish. There is also a nice leg of lamb, grilled salmon, large salads and vegetarian dishes. If you are really hungry though, go for the big mixed grill!
The drinks selection is large, with unpasteurised draught beer from Svijany on tap, bottled beers, Czech and International wines, and an extensive list of spirits and punchy cocktails.
The atmosphere at Mama's is relaxed, with cool background music kept low early on to allow for conversation. At weekends, it then builds to get you in the party mood.
During the summer, Mama's also has seating outside on Bethlehem Square; a fine spot for al fresco dining.
The quality of the food and the bar-like atmosphere makes Mama's ideal for informal, but most pleasant dining. And after dinner, you already have a table, so carry on as long as you like. The cocktails are worth sampling.
It may be informal, but you still need to book - Prague locals will normally reserve a table before going to Mama's, so you risk being turned away if you don't have a reservation.

Mama's suits informal group dining in a modern bar-like setting. Prices are amongst the most reasonable in the city centre, and you can stay on as long as you like for after-dinner cocktails and other drinks. Advance reservations are essential.
