Kolkovna serves good, honest Czech food and fresh Pilsner Urquell beers in a historical, pub style restaurant.
Set in a quaint location in the heart of the Old Town in Prague, Kolkovna is a clean, well maintained restaurant, decorated with historical photos and advertisements, and old tools and artefacts traditionally used in beer brewing. These illustrate the history of Pilsner Urquell, the Czech Republic's foremost beer.
The clientele at Kolkovna is a healthy mix of Prague locals and tourists, which generally ensures a high standard of cuisine. Portions are large and dishes are extremely well presented, certainly much better than they would actually have looked back in the historical era the restaurant represents!
The food is reasonably priced, with a large selection of traditional Czech fare on offer, ranging from goulash and venison to roast pork and duck served in a roasting pan. Main courses are served with traditional side dishes such as dumplings, and red and white cabbages, along with mashed potatoes and fries.
The menu also has international dishes, with a lovely lamb hock braised in red wine, beef steaks, chicken and salmon dishes, plus various pastas, and some of the best salads to be found in Prague.
For drinks, guests will appreciate the fresh, golden Pilsner Urquell lager and the dark beers. However, there are also wines, Champagnes and cocktails.
In the summer, tables are placed in front of the restaurant, for dining Al Fresco. An ideal spot for people watching in this Old Town location.
Kolkovna gets very busy, so reservations are highly recommended. It may be pub style, but this is definitely a restaurant, and people generally book for this type of place in the Czech Republic.
Overall, if would like a taste of Old Prague and traditional Czech fare, but with high modern standards, you won't find better than Kolkovna in the Old Town.

Kolkovna is popular with groups of all sizes, and for all occasions, from business lunches and family gatherings to stag and hen parties. Food and drinks are inexpensive and the atmosphere is good. Advance reservations are essential.
