Ta Fantastika Theatre in Prague is a highly accomplished black light theatre, famous for stage adaptations of Alice in Wonderland and Gulliver's Travels.

Black light theatre is a typically Czech art form, a world of illusory creations and hidden secrets. The story is told through a magical mixture of mime, modern dance, ballet, animated film, actors and/or puppets.

The principal of black light theatre is quite simple. Everything is based on the black box trick, which takes advantage of the imperfection of the human eye: the eye cannot distinguish between black on black. Actors dressed in black cannot be seen against a black background, so props operated by them appear to move by themselves, before our eyes.

With clever lighting effects, these strangely moving objects play such a strong role in the unfolding drama, that they become as important as the live actors to the production.

In black light theatre the story is recounted visually, with little or no spoken words. This makes the shows ideal for an international audience, of both adults and children.
