Zofin Palace is a beautiful neo-Renaissance building set on Slavonic Island (Slovansky ostrov), a small island in the centre of Prague near the National Theatre.

This is an idyllic spot surrounded by nature, where there are lovely views to enjoy over the river and downstream to Prague Castle.

The restaurant is located both inside Zofin Palace and outside in a large permanent marquee in the grounds.

The palace part of the restaurant is open all year, while the marquee is open April to October (and on New Year's Eve). The marquee is heated in the winter and open-sided in the summer.

Whether you dine in the palace or in the marquee (the restaurant will allocate you an appropriate table), Zofin offers good food and a unique dining environment all year round, and at very reasonable prices.

The marquee has been designed in the style of an orangery with live citrus fruit trees and palms. And it has a 'live kitchen', where chefs prepare Czech and International specialities in front of you, including on an open grill.

The palace part of the restaurant is naturally more elegant, with high ceilings, long draping curtains and finely dressed tables.

At first glance Zofin looks very palatial and therefore expensive, but the restaurant is in fact quite the opposite. It offers a relaxed dining environment suitable for all age groups, and is popular with local Czechs.

The menu changes frequently at Zofin and includes fresh fish of the day and meat specials. In the winter there is an emphasis on hearty fare like roast lamb, duck, venison, goose, steaks and Czech river fish. In the summer, the grill opens and their flagship steak burgers and lamb skewers join the range of food on offer.

There is always a choice of food to suit all tastes, using seasonal and home-made ingredients including bio products.

The drinks list has Czech and International wines, along with cold beers, spirits and great value freshly made cocktails.

The quality of food and drink is assured, for Zofin is the sister of three of Prague's finest restaurants: Bellevue, Mlynec and V Zatisi. While these offer a true fine dining experience, Zofin has more informal dining in a unique, natural setting.

For families, Zofin has a kids play area set up in a corner of the marquee in the summer, and in the palace in the winter. And on Sundays they put on a family brunch with supervision for children. There is also a playground outside on the island.

Whilst on Slavonic Island take a stroll in the grounds, enjoy the woodland and watch the birds in the river. In the summer you can hire a boat to paddle around the island.

Group information
With dining options both in the palace and in the marquee, and set on a small island, Zofin is a unique restaurant to take groups to. Combine your meal with a stroll around the island. Very reasonably priced.
