The Prague public transportation network is cheap, efficient and highly integrated, making it easy to travel around the city by metro, tram and bus. Public transport in Prague is also considered safe.

Getting around Prague by public transport
A ticket for the Prague public transport network permits travel for a set period of time on all trams, buses and the metro. It also you to transfer between transport modes. Purchase tickets at newsagents, metro stations, and at the Public Transport Information Centres at Muzeum & Mustek metro stations.

Ticket validation: validate a ticket before travel by punching it in the orange machine located at the top of the escalators on the metro, and inside trams and buses.

Then Prague Metro operates 05:00-midnight.
Metro lines run a service every 2-4 minutes during peak hours, and every 4-10 minutes off-peak.

All areas of the city centre are covered. There are three metro lines: A (green), B (yellow) and C (red).

The Prague metro is very reliable, offering a safe form of public transportation around the city at high speeds.

Prague trams operate 04:30-00:15.
Popular tram lines run every 4 minutes during peak hours. Other routes run every 8-10 minutes during the week, and every 7.5-15 minutes at weekends.

A nighttime tram service operates 00:00-04:30.
Trams cover most areas of the city and run every 30 minutes. Trams have different numbers to day trams.

Most useful tram routes: No.9 runs across the city via Wenceslas Square and onto the Lesser Town (Mala Strana). No.22 and No.23 run via the Lesser Town (Mala Strana) up to the rear of Prague Castle.

The main Prague train station is near Wenceslas Square - Hlavni Nadrazi Prague train station

Nadrazi Holesovice Train Station
The second train station in Prague is just outside the city centre - metro map (line C).

Tickets & Reservations: It is not possible to buy tickets online or over the phone in English. Purchase them from any train station in Prague.

The funicular railway climbs Petrin Hill. Take it to experience wonderful views over Prague, explore various attractions and to enjoy the nature.

The funicular railway operates daily 09:00-23:30. It runs every 10 minutes in the summer, every 15 minutes in the winter.

There is a midway stop for visitors wishing to dine at the Nebozizek Restaurant.

A ride on the funicular costs 26czk. You can use the same ticket for travel on trams, buses and the metro.

Getting from Prague Airport into the city centre by public transport
Take bus 119 from Prague Airport to Dejvicka metro station (line A). Cross the main road, then catch the metro into the city centre. Total travel time is around 60 minutes.
