This exhibition has assembled the largest collection of mummies in the world (plus other artefacts), loaned from museums, universities and private collections. Explore the culture and civilisations of ancient peoples from Egypt, Europe and South America.

Music and Fairy Tales
Music and Fairy Tales

Folk tales and fairy tales play a strong role in the national psyche in the Czech Republic. This exhibition, aimed at adults and children, explores the influence of Czech fairy tales on music.

Municipal House
Blanka Matragi, fashion designer - Exhibition

This exhibition, held in the Gaming Parlours at Municipal House, celebrates the fashion designer Blanka Matragi's 30 years of work. Dresses and accessories are the core exhibits, supplemented by sculptures, glass, porcelain and graphic art.

Light and Life - Exhibition
Light and Life - Exhibition
Date: 01 March 2018 - 31 December 2018
This exhibition at the National Museum New Building explores the effects of light on life. Energy from sunlight has played a key role in the evolution and diversity of living organisms (although some species do survive without light, for example in deep caves). Cartoon characters guide children through the exhibition.

Noah’s Ark - Exhibition
Noah’s Ark - Exhibition
Date: 01 March 2018 - 31 December 2018
This exhibition at the National Museum New Building reveals the remarkable beauty and diversity of animal species on Earth, and draws attention to modern dangers that put it at risk. Displays include animals that once roamed freely in the Czech lands, such as brown bears, elk and beavers, plus African animals, and extinct animals such as a full dinosaur skeleton.

Festival of Rosé Wines

Celebrate the month of love with a glass of rosé! The festival takes place on the hillside below Prague Castle at St. Wenceslas Vineyard, which is in the grounds of Villa Richter. Several dozen wineries present their rosés, totalling over 100 different bottles to taste from. There is also food on offer to accompany your drinks.
Where: St. Wenceslas Vineyard (Svatováclavská vinice), Staré zámecké schody 6, Castle District, Prague 1.
Travel: Metro station Malostranska (line A). Walk out to the main road and turn left. Walk up the road 75m and just before the pink building on the left, turn left to take the Stare Zamecke Schody (Old Castle Steps). The vineyard is around 200m up the steps on the right-hand side.

Public holiday. Prague sightseeing and entertainment operate as normal. Shops have limited opening times.

Wenceslas Square
Date: 01 May 2018
Student-celebrated spring festival which takes place throughout the Czech Republic. In Prague this manifests itself as a parade starting at Jan Palacha, near the horse at the top of Wenceslas Square, ending at the Old Town Square.

Petrin Hill is the romantic setting for couples in love to spend a few hours together, after placing flowers at the feet of a statue of the celebrated 19th century poet, Karel Hynek Macha. Macha created several myths, a few illegitimate offspring and an epic poem called 'May'. Thus, lovers make a pilgrimage in his name and find a quiet corner to, well, er, let's say no more.

The Prague Marathon is one of the most beautiful courses in the world. The race winds through the historic city centre, over bridges and along the Vltava River. The race is on the Sunday, but the build up starts on Saturday with a weekend of activities, including relay and corporate team marathons.

Liberation Day - Public Holiday
Date: 08 May 2018
Public holiday. Celebrates the end of World War II. Although Soviet tanks rolled in to liberate the Czech Republic a day later than elsewhere, on the 9th May 1945, VE Day is celebrated on the 8th May in line with other former Communist countries "liberated" by the Russians.
Prague sightseeing and entertainment operate as normal. Shops have limited opening times.

The annual Czech Beer Festival in Prague is the largest gastronomic event in the country, with seating for 4,000 visitors on benches inside huge marquees. There are 150 varieties of Czech beer to sample, sourced from international, regional breweries and microbreweries. There is Czech food to taste and live bands to entertain. The event takes place at Letna, which is a large park outside the city centre.

Travel: Metro station Hradcanska (line A), then tram to Sparta (trams 1, 8, 12, 25, 26, 51, 56). Some trams run from the city centre, so you may be able to travel directly there by tram.

Sample up to 400 wines by 70 different winemakers hailing from all over Central Europe. The festival takes place inside the New Town Hall and outside in the courtyard. There is also regional food on sale and a Kids’ Corner with professional nannies for families.

Pink May is a festival of rosé wines and clarets, featuring the best bottles from 25 winemakers from Moravia and Bohemia. Taste the wine, enjoy some food, and listen to live jazz and swing music.

Open House Prague

The Open House Prague project offers the public the opportunity to visit over 40 normally inaccessible buildings and spaces. Visit the headquarters of companies, secret dining salons at a railway station, and the roofs of shops and office buildings. Buildings that participate are free to enter, with volunteers on hand to guide you.

The annual Prague Food Festival celebrates the culinary skills of the top restaurant chefs in the Czech Republic. The festival takes place in a large outdoor setting at Vysehrad Park. Wander around the stalls and sample local and international dishes, along with wines, sparking wines and Czech beers. There is also a children’s area with entertainment and cooking instruction.
