For the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, this exhibition at the Prague City Museum leads visitors through the dramatic events of November 1989 in Prague. Displays include posters, leaflets, photographs and film shots.

Villa Amerika Dvorak Museum
Antonín Dvorak: Inspiration from Nature - Exhibition

Nature played a major role in the life of the famous Czech composer Antonín Dvorák, and it had a strong impact on his work. He was an enthusiastic hiker, pigeon fancier and gardener. This exhibition includes items from Dvorák’s personal estate: his walking sticks, hats, drinking bottle (flask) and his own copy of a book on birdsong from the collection of the National Museum.

This exhibition, held in the Gaming Parlours at Municipal House, celebrates the fashion designer Blanka Matragi's work. Dresses and accessories are the core exhibits, supplemented by sculptures, chandeliers, glass and porcelain objects, and art.

The Czech Repubrick is a display of Czech monuments built entirely from LEGO. Constructed at Hamleys in Prague, it features St. Vitus Cathedral, Karlstejn Castle and a LEGO roller coaster. 2.5 tons of LEGO bricks were used to create the exhibition.

This annual exhibition features traditional nativity scenes, handicrafts, Christmas decorations and local customs. As this is the 40th anniversary of the exhibition, the best exhibits from previous years will also feature in the display.

Prague Castle Christmas Market 2019
Prague Castle Christmas Market 2019

Wooden huts and Christmas lights create a magical atmosphere. Browse the stalls stocked with local handicrafts, and sample traditional Czech food and drinks.

The Prague Christmas Markets light up the city, bringing locals and tourists together in a true 'winter wonderland' setting. Among the local food and drinks to sample are grilled sausages, hams on spits, pastries, Czech beer and hot mulled wine.

International Christmas Festival

The annual International Christmas Festival is organised by the Diplomatic Spouses Association Prague. The Congress Hall at the Hilton Hotel is transformed into a large marketplace where diplomats dressed in their national costumes sell typical products from their countries. Visitors can pick up clothing, fashion accessories, jewellery, artwork and handicrafts. There is also traditional food and drink to sample, and music and dance to enjoy. All proceeds go to charities in the Czech Republic.

Charles Bridge

In the build up to Christmas, every day at 4pm a lamplighter in period costume lights historical gas lamps placed along Charles Bridge and in the nearby streets. It's a bit of theatre really, but December is the ideal month to revive this romantic old custom.

The Best of The Nutcracker covers the whole story of the famous ballet, but is a shortened version designed to appeal to a wider audience. It is a beautiful show, especially around Christmas. Requires advance booking as performances usually sell out.

Public holiday in Prague. Christmas Eve is the most festive day of Christmas in the Czech Republic. It is a wonderfully peaceful day in Prague; the Christmas markets are open, but only selected shops, bars and restaurants. Sightseeing tours and river cruises operate until around lunchtime. There are also festive concerts.
