The world's biggest astronautic exhibition is being held in Prague for the first time. The exhibition has been created in co-operation with NASA and leading experts in the field. Visitors can see original parts of space shuttles, space stations and space crafts, and find out about the life of an astronaut. Displays cover the history of space conquest, and outline the latest projects being worked on by national space agencies and private companies, such as colonising the Moon and flying to Mars.

Prague State Opera Reopens
Prague State Opera Reopens

Following several years of reconstruction, the Prague State Opera is open. Audiences are once more enjoying opera and ballet by Verdi, Tchaikovsky, Puccini, Rossini, Donizetti, Prokofiev and other well-known composers.

November 1989 On The Streets of Prague - Exhibition

For the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, this exhibition at the Prague City Museum leads visitors through the dramatic events of November 1989 in Prague. Displays include posters, leaflets, photographs and film shots.

Villa Amerika - Dvorak Museum
Antonín Dvorak: Inspiration from Nature - Exhibition
Dates: 02 January 2020 - 30 April 2020

Nature played a major role in the life of the famous Czech composer Antonín Dvorák, and it had a strong impact on his work. He was an enthusiastic hiker, pigeon fancier and gardener. This exhibition includes items from Dvorák’s personal estate: his walking sticks, hats, drinking bottle (flask) and his own copy of a book on birdsong from the collection of the National Museum.

Municipal House
Blanka Matragi, Fashion Designer: Timeless - Exhibition

This exhibition, held in the Gaming Parlours at Municipal House, celebrates the fashion designer Blanka Matragi's work. Dresses and accessories are the core exhibits, supplemented by sculptures, chandeliers, glass and porcelain objects, and art.

St Mathew's Fair

The oldest reference to the St. Mathew's fair dates from the 16th century. It is one of the most popular fairs in the Czech Republic, with 120 rides and attractions to enjoy, from swing carousels to bumper cars and shooting galleries.

Prague Easter Markets 2020
Prague Easter Markets 2020
Dates: 28 March 2020 - 19 April 2020
The Prague Easter Markets open daily at the Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square, with a smaller market held at Prague Castle. Wooden huts display traditional handicrafts such as glassware, embroidered lace, jewellery and hand-painted Easter eggs, plus local food and drinks: sausages, large hams on spits, pastries, Czech beer and hot mulled wine.

Wooden huts decorated with the colours of spring create a magical atmosphere. Browse the stalls stocked with local handicrafts, and sample traditional Czech food and drinks.

The Easter markets are open every day over the Easter weekend. Most sights and attractions are open Easter Friday to Sunday, but some close Easter Monday. Entertainment venues are open throughout, including the opera houses, theatres, concert halls, bars and restaurants. The shops are open Easter Friday to Sunday, but larger stores close on Easter Monday.

Inside Rembrandt - Art Exhibition

To mark the 350th anniversary of the death of the Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn, the National Gallery in Prague is hosting an exhibition of his work. His portrait Scholar In His Study is the focal point of the exhibition. Other works have been loaned by major museums and galleries, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten in Antwerp, the National Gallery in London and the Albertina in Vienna.

The annual Mediterranean Food Festival is held at Smichovska naplavka, an embankment on the left bank of the river. Experience the atmosphere and taste specialities of French, Italian, Spanish, Greek and Croatian cuisine, including grilled fish, oysters, paella, lamb kebabs, olives, figs, falafel, and various cheeses and wines.

Wenceslas Square

Student-celebrated spring festival which takes place throughout the Czech Republic. In Prague this manifests itself as a parade starting in Vodickova street near Wenceslas Square and ending with an open air festival in Letnany.

Lesser Town Square
Witches' Night Parade (Paleni Carodejnic)
Dates: 30 April 2020

An ancient folk festival, Witches' Night is a cross between Halloween and May Day, and marks the end of winter and the start of spring. An effigy of a witch, said to resemble winter (or perhaps a historical reference to witch-hunting) is burnt on pyres on hill tops across the country. In Prague, there is usually a lantern parade starting at 7pm at the Lesser Town Square, proceeding on to Kampa Park for a witches burning around 8pm.

Prague is famous for its opera, ballet and classical concerts. Performances are held in magnificent opera houses, stunning concert halls, and in an array of churches and other historic buildings.
