Zofin Palace is a beautiful neo-Renaissance building set on Slavonic Island (Slovansky ostrov), near the National Theatre
The island is 20 or 30 metres offshore, and accessible via a short bridge from the river embankment.
The palace is the only building on the island, making it an idyllic setting, surrounded by nature, with lovely views over the Vltava River and downstream to Prague Castle.
Zofin Palace Restaurant is on the ground floor of the palace, and is a most elegant dining room with high ceilings, long draping curtains, and finely dressed tables.
At first glance Zofin appears rather formal, so must be expensive. But it is quite the opposite. It offers a relaxed dining environment suitable for all age groups. The service is good and the food very reasonably priced. And it is popular with local Czechs, which tells you something.
The menu has Czech and International dishes, so all tastes are catered for. It changes with the seasons and there are daily specials, but there is always fresh river fish, steak, other meats, pasta, and Czech dishes of duck, venison or goulash.
The drinks list has Czech and International wines, along with cold beers, spirits and great value freshly prepared cocktails.
The quality of food and drink is assured, because Zofin is a sister restaurant to three of Prague's finest restaurants: Bellevue, Mlynec and V Zatisi. While these present a true fine dining experience, Zofin offers more informal dining in a unique setting.
Zofin Palace has extensive grounds, so al fresco dining is also on offer from Spring to Autumn. If you make a reservation, on arrival you will be offered the choice of dining inside or outside depending on the weather conditions.
Zofin Palace Restaurant welcomes families with children. And once they have eaten they can play outside in the spacious parkland, where there is a chidren's playground, trampoline and small railway.
Whilst on Slavonic Island, take a stroll in the grounds, enjoy the woodland, and watch the birds on the river. In summer you can even hire a boat and paddle around the island!
