Antonin Dvorak and Trains - Exhibition

Dvorak, the Czech composer, said "I would give all my symphonies for inventing the locomotive". This small exhibition presents the development of railway in the Czech lands through the eyes of Dvorak, and includes his manuscript of Humoresque, which is reminiscent of the rhythm of a train.

Municipal House
Blanka Matragi, fashion designer: Timeless - Exhibition

This exhibition, held in the Gaming Parlours at Municipal House, celebrates 30 years of work by the fashion designer Blanka Matragi. Dresses and accessories form the core exhibits, supplemented by sculptures, glass, chandeliers, porcelain and graphic art.

Christmas Bell Ringing at Bethlehem Chapel - Exhibition

(24 & 31 Dec: 09:00-14:00; 25 Dec & 01 Jan: 13:00-18:00)
This year's theme is 'Bell Ringing', and an improvised bell foundry shows the various stages of bell making. There is also a nativity scene and traditional Czech Christmas themed handicrafts. The exhibition is in the crypt of Bethlehem Chapel.

Christmas Markets
Christmas Markets
Date: 01 December 2014 - 06 January 2015
Time: Daily 10:00-22:00
The Prague Christmas Markets feature wooden huts selling local handicrafts: glassware, wooden toys, candles, jewellery, puppets, embroidery and Christmas decorations. Christmas trees are at both squares and school children perform Czech Christmas carols. Among the food and drink to sample are grilled sausages, hams on spits, local pastries, Czech beer and hot mulled wine.

Clam-Gallas Palace
GIOVANNI BATTISTA PIRANESI (1720-1778)

This exhibition at Clam Gallas Palace shows the works of the Italian artist, architect, designer and archaeologist, Giovanni Battista Piranesi. Piranesi was particularly well known for painting stunning vistas of classical and contemporary Rome.

Charles Bridge Museum

In an underground setting forming part of Charles Bridge Museum, a straw built nativity scene displays life-sized figures of baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph the Three Kings, and animals.

Time: Daily 09:00-18:00 (except 24 Dec 10:00-16:00; 31 Dec 10:00-15:00; 01 Jan 13:00-18:00).
A nativity scene, complete with moving figurines, forms the central display. Over 180 modern and traditional pieces connected to the Nativity are on show.

Klementinum
Nativity at the Klementinum - Exhibition
Date: 01 December 2014 - 04 January 2015
Time: Daily 09:00-18:00 (except 24 Dec: 09:00-15:00).
The Exhibition Hall within the Klementinum complex displays the best of the Museum of Nativity Scenes, on loan from Karlstejn. Fittingly, records suggest that the first nativity scene appearing in the Czech lands was built in 1562 by the Jesuits on the site occupied by St. Clement's Cathedral within the Klementinum.

Municipal House
Vital Art Nouveau 1900 - Exhibition

Municipal House is a fitting setting for an exhibition of 19th-20th century Czech and European Art Nouveau works. 400 items are on display, including works exhibited at the Paris World’s Fair of 1900. Buy tickets at Municipal House on the day of your visit.

An open-air ice rink enhances the festive atmosphere at Ovocny trh, a square at the rear of the Estates Theatre in the Old Town. Take a break from sightseeing and the Christmas markets to enjoy outdoor skating in a historic setting.

Public holiday. Christmas Eve is the most festive day of Christmas in the Czech Republic, and is a wonderfully peaceful day in Prague. The Christmas markets are open, but only selected shops, bars and restaurants. Sightseeing tours and river cruises operate until around lunchtime. There are festive concerts throughout the day.

Prague is famous for opera, ballet and classical concerts. Performances take place in three magnificent opera houses, in stunning concert halls and in an array of beautiful historic churches. Tickets are reasonably priced, so shows often sell out. Advance reservations are therefore highly recommended.

Visit the Prague theatre for a typically Czech experience.
Black light theatre is a highly charged mix of dynamic dance, mime, singers, film, and state-of-the-art visual and sound effects. And marionette theatre features giant puppets. Shows are highly visual to appeal to adults and children of all ages and nationalities. Advance reservations are highly recommended.
