Antonin Dvorak, the Czech composer, had a passion for trains. He once said "I would give all my symphonies for inventing the locomotive". This small exhibition at the Dvorak Museum presents the development of railway in the Czech lands through the eyes of Dvorak. Exhibits include the manuscript of Dvorak's Humoresque, which is reminiscent of the rhythm of a train.

Municipal House
Blanka Matragi, fashion designer - Timeless - Exhibition

This exhibition, held in the Gaming Parlours at Municipal House, celebrates 30 years of work by the fashion designer Blanka Matragi. Dresses and accessories form the core exhibits, supplemented by sculptures, glass, chandeliers, porcelain and graphic art.

Municipal House
Vital Art Nouveau 1900 - Exhibition

Municipal House is the foremost Art Nouveau building in Prague, a fitting setting for this exhibition of late 19th/early 20th century Czech and European Art Nouveau works. Over 400 items are on display, including works exhibited at the Paris World’s Fair of 1900.

Bell Ringing at Christmas at Bethlehem Chapel - Exhibition

Time: Daily 09:00-18:00 (24 Dec/31 Dec: 09:00-14:00; 25 Dec/01 Jan: 13:00-18:00).
This year the theme to celebrate Christmas is 'Bell Ringing'. An improvised bell foundry shows the various stages of bell making. Plus there is a nativity scene, Christmas trees, Christmas themed handicrafts and other exhibits that make up a traditional Czech Christmas. The exhibition is in the crypt of Bethlehem Chapel.

Christmas Markets
Christmas Markets

The Prague Christmas Markets are open daily at the Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square. Wooden huts stock a variety of local handicrafts: wooden toys, intricate glassware, candles, jewellery, embroidery, puppets and brightly coloured Christmas decorations. And there is all manner of food and drink to sample, from hot sausages, large hams on spits delicious local pastries to Czech beers and hot mulled wine. Christmas trees are lit at both squares and school children perform Czech Christmas carols.

An open-air ice rink enhances the festive atmosphere at Ovocny trh, a square at the rear of the Estates Theatre in the Old Town. Take a break from sightseeing and the Christmas markets to enjoy outdoor skating in a historic atmosphere.

Mikulas

Devils, St. Nicholas's and Angels roam the city centre in Prague, much to the awe of young Czech children, who are expected to recite a sing a song or recite a poem for them. Children believe their visit will determine whether they deserve their Christmas gifts or not. Visitors can experience this old Czech tradition best amongst the Christmas markets of the Old Town Square.

Public holiday. Christmas Eve is the most festive day of Christmas in the Czech Republic, and is a wonderfully peaceful day in Prague. The Christmas markets are open, but only selected shops, bars and restaurants. Sightseeing tours and river cruises operate until around lunchtime. There are festive concerts throughout the day.

Prague is famous for opera, ballet and classical concerts. Performances take place in three magnificent opera houses, in stunning concert halls and in an array of beautiful historic churches. Visit the Prague theatre for a typically Czech experience.
Black light theatre is a highly charged mix of dynamic dance, mime, singers, film, and state-of-the-art visual and sound effects. And marionette theatre features giant puppets. Shows are highly visual to appeal to adults and children of all ages and nationalities. Advance reservations are highly recommended.
