A full renovation has transformed the Prague Planetarium (Planetum) into one of the best of its kind in the world.

A state-of-the-art LED dome, containing 45 million diodes and measuring 22m in diameter, offers audiences the sharpest view of the universe they have ever seen.

The Planetarium presents a full programme of shows throughout the day, from in-depth documentaries that explore the vast cosmos, to animated films featuring cartoon characters flying through space for young children.

Commentary for the shows is in Czech and English (via headphones supplied by staff).

The subject matter is varied. Some films explore the planets and moons of the solar system, others transport audiences into deep space to discover distant stars and galaxies. There are films that explore the earth's oceans and its coral reefs, while others delve deep inside the cells of humans and plants to uncover the systems that power life. Which films you choose to see, look forward to a journey of discovery.

The welcome areas of the Planetarium contain beautiful photos of the universe, so visitors should allow some time to look at these. There is also a gift shop and vending machines for refreshments.

Outside the Planetarium is a full size replica of the Apollo 11 landing module, Eagle. Often, it is open for visitors to take a look inside.

The Planetarium is easily accessible from the city centre via a direct tram. It is set on the edge of a great park, Stromovka, which is worth a stroll through after your visit.

As Prague's latest major new attraction, the Planetarium is a hit with visitors. Tickets for shows are available online from their website or in person at the entrance. It may be advisable to book in advance, as shows frequently sell out.
