This exhibition at the National Museum New Building reveals the remarkable beauty and diversity of animal species on Earth, and draws attention to modern dangers that put it at risk. Displays include animals that once roamed freely in the Czech lands, such as brown bears, elk and beavers, plus African animals, and extinct animals such as a full dinosaur skeleton.

Retro - Exhibition
Retro - Exhibition

Covering fashion to technology, designer furniture to applied arts, travel back in time at the National Museum New Building to see the fashion and furnishings popular in the different eras of the 20th century. Retro play areas form part of the exhibition, to keep the little ones entertained.

Municipal House
Blanka Matragi, fashion designer - Exhibition

This exhibition, held in the Gaming Parlours at Municipal House, celebrates the fashion designer Blanka Matragi's 30 years of work. Dresses and accessories are the core exhibits, supplemented by sculptures, glass, porcelain and graphic art.

Wenceslas Square
Date: 01 May 2017
Student-celebrated spring festival which takes place throughout the Czech Republic. In Prague this manifests itself as a parade starting at Jan Palacha, near the horse at the top of Wenceslas Square, ending at the Old Town Square.

Petrin Hill & Observation Tower

Petrin Hill is the romantic setting for couples in love to spend a few hours together, after placing flowers at the feet of a statue of the celebrated 19th century poet, Karel Hynek Macha. Macha created several myths, a few illegitimate offspring and an epic poem called 'May'. Thus, lovers make a pilgrimage in his name and find a quiet corner to, well, er, let's say no more.

Prague Marathon Weekend
Prague Marathon Weekend

The Prague Marathon is one of the most beautiful courses in the world. The race winds through the historic city centre, over bridges and along the Vltava River. The race is on the Sunday, but the build up starts on Saturday with a weekend of activities, including relay and corporate team marathons.

Liberation Day - Public Holiday
Date: 08 May 2017
Public holiday. Celebrates the end of World War II. Although Soviet tanks rolled in to liberate the Czech Republic a day later than elsewhere, on the 9th May 1945, VE Day is celebrated on the 8th May in line with other former Communist countries "liberated" by the Russians.
Prague sightseeing and entertainment operate as normal. Shops have limited opening times.

The annual Czech Beer Festival in Prague is the largest gastronomic event in the country, with seating for 4,000 visitors on benches inside huge marquees. There are 150 varieties of Czech beer to sample, sourced from international, regional breweries and microbreweries. There is Czech food to taste and live bands to entertain. The event takes place at Letna, which is a large park outside the city centre.

Travel: Metro station Hradcanska (line A), then tram to Sparta (trams 1, 8, 12, 25, 26, 51, 56). Some trams run from the city centre, so you may be able to travel directly there by tram.

Indoor and outdoor festival celebrating over 100 brands of rum from around the world. Join in with rum tastings and workshops, and enjoy specialities of Caribbean cuisine. The vibrant atmosphere is enhanced with Latino music from a live band and a DJ.

Grevin Prague Waxworks Museum
Happy 300th Birthday Maria Theresa

To celebrate 300 years since the birth of Empress Maria Theresa, Grevin Waxworks has a weekend of fun events. Visitors can witness the recreation of a real court celebration from the period. Highlights include fencers and knights, and music by Mozart. Royal company awaits!

(tickets include tokens to exchange for food samples at the stalls). Tickets are available on the day (there are always plenty).
The annual Prague Food Festival celebrates the culinary skills of the top restaurant chefs in the Czech Republic. The festival takes place in a huge outdoor setting, in the grounds of Prague Castle. Wander around the stalls and sample local and international dishes, along with wines, sparking wines and Czech beers. There is also a children’s area with entertainment and cooking instruction.
Where: Royal Gardens at the back of Prague Castle.
There are 4 entrances, the easiest to find is by Lvi Dvur Restaurant.
Travel: Metro station Malostranska (line A). Then take tram 22 up the hill and alight at tram stop Prazsky hrad (Prague Castle).

Prague Opera
Prague Opera, Ballet & Classical Concert listings & tickets
Date: May 2017.
Prague is famous for opera, ballet and classical concerts. Performances take place in several magnificent opera houses, stunning concert halls, and in an array of historic churches. Tickets are reasonably priced, so shows often sell out. Advance reservations are therefore highly recommended.

Visit the Prague theatre for a typically Czech experience.
Black light theatre is a highly charged mix of dynamic dance, mime, singers, film, and state-of-the-art visual and sound effects. And marionette theatre features giant puppets. Shows are highly visual to appeal to adults and children of all ages and nationalities. Advance reservations are highly recommended.
