DATE: 01 January 2026 | | Public Holiday. New Year's Day is also celebrated as Czech State Day in Czechia. The country commemorates the dividing of Czechoslovakia into Czechia and Slovakia on this day in 1993.

Jan Palach Day |

Soviet invasion of August 1968, during the communist era. Palach subsequently died on the 19th January 1969. Czech people congregate at the Memorial to the Victims of Communism at the top of Wenceslas Square, and at Olsanske Cemetery, where they lay flowers or light a candle in his memory. | |
