|Prague Castle is a majestic sight, no more so than when lit up at night. Set high on a hillside overlooking the city, it dominates the skyline from all around.|
Our Prague Castle at Night Tour sets out to discover the history, mysteries and alchemy associated with the castle.
It is a fast paced, fun and enlightening walking tour, comprising mostly of historical facts, but also encompassing the tales and legends associated with the 'magical capital' of Old Europe.
The tour starts near the Old Town Square, from where our guide leads us through the historical centre of Prague, over the Vltava River, and into the Lesser Town. We then take a tram up to Prague Castle (the tram ticket is included in the price).
At Prague Castle the tourists have disappeared for the day, and the complex takes on a different atmosphere.
We seek out the castle's hidden secrets, walking through the grand squares to view the palaces, churches and ancient monuments, and through Golden Lane where generations of artisans once lived and worked, stretching back to the middle ages.
Hear legends from the reigns of King Wenceslas and Emperor Charles IV. And learn how scientists and magicians from throughout Europe were drawn to Prague to undertake astronomy, alchemy and magic.
All the significant eras from Prague's past are covered in the tour: from paganism to Medieval alchemy and astrology, from the Nazi occupation to communism.
From Prague Castle there are also stunning views over the city below to enjoy: in summer there can be glorious sunsets, in the winter the city is already alive with lights.
Finally, we take the opportunity to explore other historical sights around the castle, including Strahov Monastery, Černin Palace, Loreta, Nový Svět (New World), Domeček (secret police and Gestapo prison), St Wenceslas’ Vineyard, the Lesser Town and Wallenstein Palace.
Prague Experience walking tours are led by professional licensed tourist guides.
The tour is in English as standard. If you require a tour in German, please state it in Special Requests on the booking form.
