Visas ARE ALSO NOT required in the following circumstances:• Schengen (short-stay) visa: where tourist visitors arrive with a Schengen visa, either directly into Czechia or via another Schengen Area country, no further visa is required (provided the Schengen visa was not issued by another EU country with a status of limited territorial validity, which is rarely the case). • Family members of EU citizens: if a family member of an EU citizen is not an EU citizen themself, but they hold a temporary or permanent residence permit in another EU country, they do not require a visa. Visas ARE required by visitors not covered by the above: If you require a visa, you must apply for a Schengen (short-term) visa, which allows a stay of up to 90 days. Please note: • Visas must be obtained in advance of travel. They are not available at border crossings or at Prague Airport. If you arrive without a required visa, you will be refused entry to Czechia. • Visitors holding a visa must register with the police within three working days of arrival. EU Entry/Exit System (EES)
The EU Entry/Exit System (EES), the new digital border for the Schengen Area, is now in operation at Prague Airport. Travellers from countries outside the Schengen Zone must provide biometric data (fingerprints and a facial image) on arrival in Prague and Czechia. No advance preparation is required, as border guards and registration machines at passport control guide you through the process. Non-EU travellers should be aware that passport control may take longer than usual, even if you have already provided biometrics on a previous trip.
Delays of 45 minutes or more occur frequently, so allow extra time when planning onward travel or activities later in the day. EU passport holders are unaffected by the changes. |
