The battle of Bila Hora (White Mountain) in 1620 was an important battle of the Thirty Years' War, the result of which determined the destiny of the Czech lands for the next 300 years, until 1918. To mark the anniversary of the event, hundreds of soldiers, horse riders and artillerists re-enact the fight on the battlefield in the outskirts of Prague. The St. Wenceslas Vines Festival runs annually around St. Wenceslas's Day, 28th September, to celebrate both the Czech patron saint and the grape harvest. It takes place on the hillside below Prague Castle at St. Wenceslas Vineyard, which is in the grounds of Villa Richter. Sample newly fermented wines and the best finished wines from previous years. For entertainment there are knightly contests, live music and dance. Even St. Wenceslas should put in an appearance! | |
