The Prague City & Castle Tour is a superb introduction to Prague, a city of rich, opulent beauty with an epic history. The tour includes a visit to Prague Castle, plus a boat trip.
This sightseeing tour is part by air-conditioned bus, part by boat, part on foot (some of the city's best areas are pedestrianised).
After meeting your guide near Wenceslas Square, we board the bus and begin our tour.
We embark on a fascinating journey through time, to learn of the people who shaped the city, and see the places they built over the past one thousand years - Prague has over 4,000 monuments.
Our first visit is to Wenceslas Square, with the mighty National Museum at its head. The square is the city's main meeting place for revolution and demonstration. Imagine Nazi troops marching in at the outbreak of World War II, Soviet tanks during the communist era, and learn about the Prague Spring and Velvet Revolution. Next, we cross over the Vltava River to the Lesser Town. Admire the beautiful architecture as we drive up to Prague Castle for the highlight of the trip: a one-hour walking tour of Prague Castle.
Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle complex in the world. It contains palaces, magnificent squares, towers, powerful fortifications, stunning churches, and houses many national treasures. As we explore the squares and take in the grand architecture of the buildings, the guide explains their royal and presidential connections, and recounts the castle's turbulent history. We see the castle's greatest monument, St. Vitus Cathedral, site of the coronation of medieval kings and queens, and we take in the stunning views over the city below. From Prague Castle, we walk down through the Lesser Town, then board the bus for the journey to the Old Town. Driving through cobbled streets, we learn of the intriguing events, traditions and legends tied to the area.
Time for a well-deserved rest, we board a river cruise for a one-hour boat trip through the historical centre of Prague, sailing under Charles Bridge. With the Old Town on one side of the Vltava River and the Lesser Town on the other, take in spectacular views of Prague Castle, Rudolfinum, the Prague Parliament and the National Theatre.
The boat is heated in winter and air-conditioned in summer, so is comfortable all year round. There is seating inside the boat and out on deck.
The bar on board serves beers, wines, sparkling wines, spirits, hot drinks, soft drinks and snacks.
Back on dry land, we visit the Jewish Quarter, where we learn a little of the torrid history of this former Jewish Ghetto, and see the old synagogues. The tour finishes at the Old Town Square.
Prague Experience sightseeing tours are in English and another language. They are led by licensed tourist guides and use modern, air-conditioned buses. If you require a tour in German, Italian or Spanish, state it in Special Requests on the booking form. ------------------------------------------
Note: The order of the itinerary is subject to change in the event of adverse driving conditions.
Note: The boat trip sails around the city centre only, whereas lunch and dinner cruises travel further and include a meal and live music. If you wish to book this tour plus a lunch or dinner cruise, you will enjoy both, as they offer different experiences.
