The New Stage Theatre (Nová scéna) in Prague was established in 1958 as the world's first multimedia theatre. It was originally called Laterna magika Theatre, a name the performances still carry.

Laterna magika is a variation of black light theatre. The story is told visually through a highly charged mix of theatrical elements: dynamic dance routines, colourfully dressed mime artists, ballet, singers, and state-of-the-art visual effects and dramatic sounds.

In black light theatre the backdrops are generally static, but in Laterna magika animated and live film is displayed on a huge screen behind the performers.

Mime artists and dancers interact with the films to tell the story; and they gradually appear to blend in with the moving images, causing the audience to question: what is film and what is real life?

Productions often have a strong emotional edge and comedic touches.

The New Stage Theatre is a huge glass structure situated next to the National Theatre in Prague. It is an icon of the communist era, designed to portray a sense of power.

The theatre is a Czech cultural monument. Most Czech families travel to Prague to watch a Laterna magika show at least once in their lives, which ensures there is a mixed audience of Czech people and tourists.

Shows are suitable for an international audience of both adults and children (ideally 10 years and over).

The New Stage Theatre is 5 minutes walk from Wenceslas Square and 10 minutes from the Old Town Square and Charles Bridge.
