Vytopna Railway Restaurant

While the food alone makes it worth visiting, Vytopna's real attraction is its 900‑metre miniature railway that runs around the entire restaurant and even down the centre of the tables. Food and drinks are delivered to your table by model trains in their wagons, creating a dining experience you won’t find anywhere else.

This is no gimmick, the technology employed is complex, and the restaurant's owners, who are passionate about traditional railways, have spent years developing miniature train networks.

The railway tracks pass through tunnels, over drawbridges, through sculptured rock formations and woodlands, and beside ponds. The trains can reach speeds of 20km per hour and even pull into stations.

Located on the first floor of a building on Wenceslas Square, the restaurant features huge windows offering fine views over the square.

The menu focuses on easy dining international dishes prepared with local ingredients, with top-quality beef a particular speciality.

Vytopna sources its meat from local organic and small farms, then rests it in a cold dry aging room for 40-90 days. This ensures the beef is flavoursome, juicy and tender when cooked. Steaks range from rib‑eye to sirloin to rump, and even the burger selection is mouth-watering.

Other dishes include slow‑roasted pork ribs, beef goulash, chicken and salads. Sides feature French fries, baked potatoes and coleslaw.

There are daily grill specials depending on which cuts have been brought out of the ageing rooms that morning.

The children's menu should suit most kids, with organic beefburgers, chicken strips with fries, and roast beef with dumplings. However, many may be tempted by the burgers on the main men.

For many Czechs, an excellent steak is best accompanied by a good Czech beer rather than red wine, and Vytopna does not disappoint. The restaurant serves fresh, foamy Krušovice tank beer, available only in select pubs and restaurants in Prague. The beer is delivered unpasteurised from the brewery in large, temperature‑controlled airtight tanks.

Vytopna also offers its own draft beer, brewed to a house recipe in both light and dark varieties. Finding the perfect combination of beer and steak should be easy!

For those who prefer wine, there is a selection of local Moravian bottles, along with spirits, cocktails, sparkling wine and soft drinks, all reasonably priced for the downtown location.

Although children are naturally captivated by the trains, adults and couples should not be deterred from dining here. Indeed, they form the majority of guests. The railway fascinates all ages, whether or not they are train enthusiasts.

Vytopna serves some of the best steaks in Prague, and having a model train deliver an ice‑cold beer is a memorable experience. It is not intended as a romantic venue or as a destination for elegant dining. It simply provides a fun, unique outing for groups of friends, families, couples and big kids of all ages!
