Vytopna Restaurant at Wenceslas Square serves good food and drinks at reasonable prices. But its unique attraction is a 400m miniature railway which runs around the entire restaurant, and even down the centre of the tables you sit at. This is no gimmick, the technology employed is complex. The restaurant's owners are passionate about traditional railways and have developed miniature train networks for years. The trains reach speeds of 20km per hour, and they deliver drinks to your table sitting in their wagons! The railway tracks they travel on pass through tunnels, over drawbridges, through sculptured rock formations and woods, by ponds, and the trains pull into stations. Vytopna is located on the first floor of a building with huge windows overlooking Wenceslas Square. The menu presents easy dining International food, with beef a speciality of the restaurant. Vytopna sources its steaks and burger meat from organic or small local farms, and allows it to rest in a cold, dry aging room for 60-120 days. This ensures the cooked meats are flavoursome, juicy and tender. A variety of steaks appear on the menu, which changes daily depending on which ones have been brought out. These range from rib-eye to tenderloin to rump steak. The selection of burgers is also quite mouth-watering. Other dishes include daily grill specials, fresh salads, and hot sandwiches with either pulled beef, coleslaw and glazed red onions, or slowly roasted pork knuckle with red onions and salad. The children's menu should suit most kids, with chicken strips and pasta both featured. Equally, children may find the range of delicious burgers on the main menu too enticing to ignore. Drinks include Czech wines from Moravia, draught Czech beers, spirits and cocktails, Bohemia Sekt 'Czech Champagne', and soft drinks, all at very reasonable prices. While the local wine served by the glass is pleasant enough, for many visitors a train delivering ice-cold beer cannot be beaten! Also, Vytopna is one of a select number of restaurants in Prague to sell "tankové pivo" or tank beer. The beer is delivered from the brewery unpasteurised in huge temperature controlled airtight tanks, to ensure the freshest Czech beer around. All-adult parties and couples should not be put off eating at Vytopna. The railway will fascinate most people, train enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts alike, and of both sexes. Vytopna is not for a romantic meal, and it is certainly not for elegant dining in fine attire. It is simply a fun, unique restaurant for families, couples, groups, indeed for big kids of all ages! Vytopna is well-known throughout Czechia, and popular with local Czechs because it is very good value for a restaurant on Wenceslas Square, in the heart of Prague. We therefore strongly advise booking in advance to get a table. Otherwise you are likely to face a long wait or be turned away. |
